Will Forte & Lana Condor – Coyote vs. Acme

Dan Gutierrez sits down with Will Forte and Lana Condor for a conversation about Coyote vs. Acme, a movie whose journey to the big screen became almost as unlikely as Wile E. Coyote finally suing ACME.
Forte and Condor discuss the wonderfully ridiculous premise, the film’s balance of classic Looney Tunes comedy and genuine heart, and the unusual process of acting alongside an animated character who never speaks. Condor explains how legendary puppeteer Dave Barclay helped give the actors a physical Wile E. Coyote to rehearse with before the puppet was removed and replaced with reference points for filming.
Forte also talks about growing up as a Looney Tunes fan and why the filmmakers’ commitment to the original characters and tone should give longtime fans plenty to enjoy, while Condor explains why audiences completely new to Looney Tunes can still connect with the story.
The conversation gets especially personal when the subject turns to Albuquerque, where Coyote vs. Acme was filmed. Forte recalls his history working in New Mexico on projects including MacGruber and Beerfest, his love for the local crews, food and Hatch chile — and the fact that he even got married in Albuquerque.
Finally, Forte opens up about the extraordinary off-screen battle surrounding the movie: the shock of learning the completed film might never be released, seeing it for himself afterward, and watching supporters continue making enough noise that the film ultimately found a new home.
It’s an especially fitting ending for a movie about an underdog refusing to stay down.
🎬 Coyote vs. Acme hits theaters August 28.
