The Suicide Squad Revealed!!! (COMICS!)

tumblr_nnsr5np2S31tguoxuo1_r1_1280

You have NO IDEA how excited I am!

In case you aren’t aware, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice isn’t the only big DC Comics movie coming out next year. That other film coming out in 2016 is called Suicide Squad. Now, for those whom still don’t know, here is a quick run down. Suicide Squad is a team of super villains forced by the government to carry out life threatening tasks. If they don’t play ball, they will be killed. Usually by a bomb implant in their necks. If you want a better understanding, I’d recommend the awesome Batman: Assault on Arkham movie. Or The Suicide Squad episodes of Arrow. I’d recommend the former more than the latter, but both are solid! I’ve always loved the team, and the stories are usually a lot of fun and crazy. To have a film being made about them, written and directed by David Ayer, is exciting. Now! One thing I enjoy about Ayer is he loves to share with his fans! He keeps us updated on what is currently going on during his film productions. So, we’ve been seeing step by step of Ayer’s approach to Suicide Squad. The more I saw, the more excited I became.

Now, we are finally at the filming stage! Which means Ayer has begun to share what each character will look like in the film! So, long story short….I give you The Suicide Squad! I am over the moon, people! These character’s look amazing, and I couldn’t be happier about whom they got to play each one! Going from left to right we have Adam Beach as Slipknot, Jai Courtney as Captain Boomerang, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Cara Delevingne as Enchantress, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn (my favorite!), Will Smith as Deadshot, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, and Jay Hernandez as El Diablo. Yea. This is awesome. Now I just can’t wait for the first trailer to hit the net! Now, before I go, there is one more thing I should discuss. I didn’t get the chance to speak of it during it’s actual release. At the time I was at C2E2 in Chicago, but I have time to do it now.

There is a big cast member/character missing from this Image. Mainly because he isn’t a member of the Suicide Squad, but also because we already saw him last weekend. I’m obviously speaking of Jared Leto as The Joker. The image has seemed to divide the fans up. Some really enjoy it. Others see it as Leto joining the ICP crowd. For me, I gotta say I’m a fan. The Joker has had some radical looks in his life. Once he got shot in the head and didn’t die. So he was stuck with a nasty scar in the middle of his forehead. More recently, He had to wear his own face. Yea. Joker used wires and belts to strap his own face to his head. So, if I can get used to those looks, Tattoos and capped teeth won’t bug me. Even if the rumors are true, and this isn’t the actual Joker look. Either way, I really like this look, and I can’t wait to see Leto’s performance! I will say this, though. I am iffy on the “Damaged” tattoo on his head. Seems kind of ironic. Maybe that’s the point. Who knows. Anyway, let us know what you think of these reveals in the comments!

Marvel Announces Phase 3 of the MCU! (COMICS!)

Phase 3

I know I’m a little late on posting about this, but at least I’m doing it now! Better late than never, right? At least, I think so. Anyway, Marvel has just made a HUGE announcement! Seeing as how phase two of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU for short, is just about wrapped up, Marvel felt it was time to reveal their plans for phase three. An entire line-up of movies were announced at a big event, and they even showed off a few clips from their next blockbuster event Avengers: Age of Ultron. Now, this is exciting to hear. However, I’m just not as excited as I probably should be. It’s kind of strange, but I’m just not leaping off my couch right away. I mean, there are a few titles I’m over the moon about. One of those being Captain Marvel. I really love Carol Danvers, as well as her most recent comic book adventures, so It’s exciting to see her getting a film soon. All Marvel has to do now is cast the right actress AKA Katee Sackhoff. Honestly, there really isn’t another perfect choice than Sackhoff. Lets get real, people!

Other than that, I’m just not pumped up about this. I mean, I feel like it’s a bit of overkill. I think I have Marvel fatigue, man! It’s just Marvel Marvel Marvel all the time, and It’s becoming over whelming. Also, we just got a trailer for Age of Ultron! Why are we getting a teaser trailer for Avengers 3? Can’t we just focus on that as apposed to what’s coming in four years? You know, I might not even see those movies in 2018 because the fatigue will have grown and festered inside me. Okay that sounded kind of gross. I’m very sorry about that. Obviously, I’m going to be in the minority on this. Especially with the loads of fans excited to see these movies, but It just seems like a bit much. Again, this is probably just me.

Truthfully, It is exciting as hell to see that there will be movies based on characters we’ve never seen on the big screen before. Same goes to DC and Warner Bros. They announced an entire line-up a while ago, and that was very exciting. Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg, The Flash, Shazam, and more are finally coming to the theater! At the end of the day, I’ll probably see these new Marvel films. Hopefully I’ll like them, and leave the theater a happy nerd. That’s what I hope for, ultimately. However, it probably won’t change the way I feel. Anyway, let us know what your most excited about with these phase three films! Also, as a special treat, if you click on the image you’ll be taken to a clip/trailer combo for Avengers: Age of Ultron! Trust me when I say this, It’s a pretty rad video!

Gotham Series Premiere Review! (COMICS!)

gotham.0_cinema_1200.0

If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with Batman. I don’t really remember when it started. I just know I am. It feels like it’s been this way since I was born. When I was younger, It was all about the movies and the cartoons. The comics didn’t really come into the picture until I was a teenager. Once that happened, my obsession grew to unimaginable heights. When I was a kid, the obsession was Batman centric. When I got older, and read the comics, it was everything. Batman AND his world became incredibly fascinating to me. I began to fall in love with characters like Commissioner Gordon, Dick Grayson, Selina Kyle, Alfred Pennyworth, The Joker, The Penguin, The Riddler, and the rest of these colorful and dark people.

However, what I really grew to love was Gotham City itself. Such a dilapidated, scum filled, mysterious, rotten to the core city. A place, a hell on earth, that truly needed someone like Batman to save it. So, when DC Comics announced they were making a television show about how Gotham became the city we know, I was ecstatic. A show that explores the beginnings of one of the best fictional places ever? Who wouldn’t be excited?! Finally, after a long wait, Gotham has premiere on FOX. So, this first episode starts right at the beginning. A young boy and his parents walking down a dark alleyway after a great time at the movies. Suddenly ambushed by a mugger, a man of the night, eager to snag their valuables. To end this encounter, the mugger shoots and kills the young boys beloved parents. This boy, as you should know, is Bruce Wayne.

Moments later, Detectives James Gordon, our main character, and his partner Harvey Bullock arrive on the scene. While Bullock ponders ways to avoid being involved with this case, Gordon makes a promise to the young Wayne. He will find and capture the man who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents. Afterwards, we travel to some of the blackest pits of Gotham as Jim and Harvey try to solve the Wayne murder case. This is episode one in a nutshell. Once the credits played, I was sporting a big grin on my nerdy face. This was really a wonderful pilot. There were a few points where I felt the show needed work, but I was satisfied non the less.

First of all, I gotta say how much I love the look of this show. Honestly, I haven’t loved the look of Gotham City this much since the Tim Burton Batman film from ’89. Not that I didn’t like, say, the Nolan Gotham City, but I’ve always been a fan of the more art deco/gothic style. I would say this Gotham is a perfect marriage of Burton and Nolan’s Gotham Cities. A bit more Burton than Nolan, but it’s a nice mixture. I also loved just how dark and brutal the city was. A first episode is mainly about showcasing what to expect tonally and stylistically from the rest of the series. I feel this pilot did that incredibly well. A true portrayal of how Gotham should be. Nothing like how R Kelly described it! Yea! I’m calling you out, man! I hope you’re still trapped in that closet, you jerk!

Anyway…Gotham also showcased some stellar performances. I really loved Donal Logue and Jada Pinkett Smith the most. Logue is the perfect Bullock. His look, charm, and attitude works so well for Bullock. Pinkett Smith plays a brand new character named Fish Mooney, a character I quickly loved. I can’t really think of many female crime bosses, so it’s nice to see one for a change. A really awesome one. I can’t wait to see more of her. As far as the rest of the cast, everyone was pretty solid. Ben McKenzie was quite good as a young Gordon. Not as humble as I’d like him to be, but still a man with a heart of gold. Fun fact! This isn’t McKenzie’s first time in Gotham. He actually voiced Batman in the animated Batman: Year One. While he was decent as a Young Bruce Wayne, I like him more as a young Gordon.

Speaking of Young Bruce Wayne, David Mazouz was spectacular as Bruce Wayne. He did a great job capturing the fear and intensity of Bruce. The most emotional bits in the pilot where because of Mazouz’s wonderful portrayal. Now, while I really enjoyed this episode, it wasn’t without flaws. For example, the episode was a bit predictable. Mainly because we’ve seen Batman’s origin story a lot. I mean, everyone knows how Batman became Batman. We’ve seen it and read it a million times. So, it was hard to really be surprised. Thankfully, the pilot took a few nice turns to make things less familiar. Along with predictability, This first episode was a bit cheesy. I don’t mind cheese, but it was a tad much at times.

Also, I wish we got more of Selina Kyle. She doesn’t really do much expect sneak around in the background. However, episode two is called “Selina Kyle” so I suspect she will be getting a bit more screen time soon. One little nitpick I have is the character Ivy Pepper. Ivy Pepper is supposed to be a young Poison Ivy. Now, this might be too early to say since I don’t know their plans, but that is not Posion Ivy! Why couldn’t she be named Pamela Isley? I hope this is just temporary, and the character gets a name change or something down the road. Ultimately, though, I really dug this episode. I remember hearing some Batfans complaining this show would suck simply because Batman isn’t in it. Well, can a Batman related show work without having Batman in it? Yes. I think it can.

I’ll give Gotham “Pilot” Episode an 8.5 out of 10.

That’s right, folks. I review three big geeky things in my latest video. First up, I take a look at the blu-ray release for the most loved and hated superhero movie of 2013: Man of Steel. Also, I take a look at Thor: The Dark World, which is the latest film released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. I was incredibly excited to see this movie. I mean, who wouldn’t be? You have a Game of Thrones director tackling Thor! Who wouldn’t be pumped! All that being said, was it all worth it in the end? Again, watch the video and find out! Finally, I review the latest Batman game to hit the shelves: Arkham Origins.

This item takes top billing this week, mainly because I felt this would grab more attention than the other two things. Either way, all of this stuff is reviewed! It’s pretty exciting, right? BatFleck: The Silver Linings (COMICS!)

Batfleck

“Argo f@*k yourself, Superman.” (Can this please be a line in Batman vs. Superman?)

As you may have heard, Warner Bros has announced that Ben Affleck will be playing Batman in the Man of Steel Sequel, also known as Batman vs. Superman, coming in 2015. If you HAVEN’T heard about this, GUESS WHAT?!?! Anyway, when I first heard this news, I turned into a raging fanboy. I was so upset about all of this! I belted out things like “WTF IS THIS S#!t!” and “Affleck?! NO! NO! NO!” It got pretty ugly, let me tell you! However, as time had past, I was able to calm myself. I was able to think on this news rationally and logically. At this point, I had made my Affleck as Batman video, which I posted on this site, giving my thoughts on this news. Spoiler Alert, I basically said I’ll give Affleck a chance. While I don’t think I can see Affleck in the role without me going “That’s just Affleck as Batman”, I’m willing to give him a shot. Because, the thing is, you can’t judge someone’s performance without even seeing it. It’s not fair to the performer, you know?

Now, unlike myself, it seems the internet has continued to rage on and on about this. So much so, that fans have started to make petitions and death threats. Yea, I’m not even kidding you. Fans are so mad about this, they have made petitions and death threats because Ben Affleck is playing Batman. Seriously? Seriously, fanboys? Why are you making Batman fans look bad? First you attack critics about hating on The Dark Knight Rises, and now this? FOR SHAME, BATMAN FANS! So, because of this continued rage fest on BatFleck, I felt I should make a part 2. A second take on this news that, hopefully, will show fans a few silver linings in having Ben Affleck as Batman. Silver linings, mind you, that have come from a Batman fanboy whom still doesn’t see him in the role!

Silver Lining #1: Ben Affleck is a comic book fan

It’s been stated in the past that Affleck is, in fact, a big comic book fan. I mean, with friends like Kevin Smith and his crew, your bound to end up being a fan! This is a great thing because Affleck can use his knowledge of the source material, and apply that to his performance. That’s exactly what he did when he played Daredevil! Granted, Daredevil isn’t a well liked film, even by Affleck, its safe to say he wasn’t the reason it wasn’t good. In fact, while I didn’t love him, he was probably my favorite thing about that movie. Affleck was able to capture the true essence of the character, even if it was hard to see him as Daredevil without seeing Affleck. This is especially the case in the awesome director’s cut of the film, which I just watched today! So, to have a fan of the source material playing the role is a big benefit, I think.

Silver Lining #2: The guy looks like a superhero

You have to admit, with that jaw and his good looks, the man looks like a superhero. I mean, if he didn’t, director’s wouldn’t have cast him as a Daredevil or George Reeves as Superman, am I right? Admittedly, I do think Affleck should bulk up a bit, which He has started doing, but other then that he has the look. Plus, if you look up some of the photoshop work of Affleck as Batman, you might be surprised how great he looks. Again, it’s just a photoshop, but it still looks great:

Silver Lining #3: The possibility of Ben Affleck directing the Batman reboot!

This is probably my biggest silver lining! It’s so big that, if it were announced in the next few weeks, I’d be a BatFleck super fan! As it is well known, Affleck has been trying to start a career as a director. So far, the guy has yet to miss a step! Gone Baby Gone, The Town, and Argo are, in my opinion, three of the best films to come out in the past few years! So, now that he is cast as Batman, we are that much closer to the possibility of Affleck directing a Batman film! How f@*king awesome would that be, huh? It would be the greatest news ever! I mean, the simple notion of him being asked to direct a Justice League movie a while ago was exciting. To be honest, I could see Affleck making BatFilms far superior to Nolan’s! YEP! I SAID IT! SO, DEAL WITH IT!

So, those are my silver linings to BatFleck! Hopefully this will calm down some of the nerd rage. I doubt it will for many reasons, but I hope it helps, anyway. At the end of the day, and I’m sure this is true for other BatFans as well, all I really want is a great live action portrayal of Batman on screen. As I’ve said in the past, I don’t feel there has been a perfect live action Batman performance yet, but there have been great versions. If Ben Affleck can deliver that performance, then that will be awesome! I will gladly stand corrected, and support Affleck all the way! In conclusion, I say this: To all the BatFans out there. If someone with similar thoughts can find the silver linings to BatFleck, can’t you?

Kick-Ass 2 Movie Review!!! (COMICS!)

Kick-Ass-2-posters-Banner

Kick-Ass 2 is finally here. Why am I really bummed out by this?

Hello fellow superheroes! This is Richard here, and I have a review for you this week! So, I am a massive fan of the first Kick-Ass movie. So much so, that It’s one of the few movies I found to be 10x better than it’s source material! It’s a classic in the comic book movie genre, and a great satirical love letter to superheroes. Now, when I heard they were finally making Kick-Ass 2, I was as giddy as a kid at Christmas! I never would have thought they’d make a sequel to a movie like Kick-Ass, but they did! However, the sequel they made wasn’t really the sequel I wanted from them. Yikes! To hear my full review, as usual, click on the image above! Also, if you like what you see, hit that subscribe button!
