This week we review Footloose, yes another remake of a film that was much more famous than this will ever be… but unfortunately, this one will probably make much more money than the first. Footloose is exactly like the original. With newer younger pretty people and now they have iPods and race buses instead of tractors. If you don’t know the story here’s the gist, a small town bans dancing and teenage partying because of a terrible accident that occurs. The kids fight back for their chance to dance. I bet you know how this ends… I only wished somebody said “Fuck you city, you got served.” But I’ll let you know my complete thoughts on this movie right here in the podcast. Also, we count down the top ten dance movies… and yes, Teen Wolf does make the list.
This week we went to review the futuristic movie about boxing robots. If you haven’t heard already, Hollywood is making a Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots movie, but this one should have been it. I hear Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots is about a half human half robot boxing machine. But I really thought the idea of Real Steel was stupid in the first place as well. The only time I enjoyed robots fighting was the show “Robot Wars” that aired on the BBC. But this is a story about Hugh Jackman and his wise ass son Max. They try to deal with each other while trying to compete in the world of robot boxing. We pretty much know how the movie ends before we even see a frame. But I was quite surprised, check out why by listening to the review right here.
Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt star in the cancer comedy 50/50. Yes, I know that’s insensitive to say, but that’s how the studios would like us to bill it. Unfortunately this movie isn’t the barrel of laughs the trailer leads you to believe. Yes there is cancer, yes there is comedy. But, there is something about the human struggle of “what the hell am I gonna do now?” Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Adam, the guy with cancer. The movie is from his perspective and shows what it feels and looks like when you have to go down the path of dealing with death, dealing with friends and dying with loved ones. This show we talk about the top ten movies with Diseases, and we’ll let you know whether you should see this in Theaters, Wait til DVD, or just forget about it.
This week we review Moneyball, the new Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill baseball flick that has nothing to do with playing baseball. Oakland A’s Manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) gets a wild hair up his ass and decides to buy a winning team, based on statistics, rather than the old fashion way. We are lead to believe that the A’s are a bunch of no money losers (I hear this is true from one of my lame sports fan co-workers). No there aren’t any Jamaican bobsledders nor, ducks that gain might. This movie takes the behind the scenes no-holds-bar cash is king look at the sport. It really exposes that the muscle heads on the field were just genetically engineered to look good, and pose for their Wheaties packages. During the show we count down the top ten movies about baseball and Dan has a new appreciation for the sport.
This week Dan struggles to stay awake through a midnight screening of Drive. Starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston and Albert Brooks. At the Cannes Film Festival Drive was nominated for the Palm D’Or and won Best Director for Nicolas Winding Refn. This movie takes an intentionally slow and artistic look at the worlds of stunt car driving and getaway driving. Interesting flick though, Refn feels like he was stealing the ultra violence styling of Cronenberg. During this program we count down the top ten movies about stunt drivers. Also, we mention a thing or two about how cute Carey Mulligan is. And 101 reasons why you will never ever get to sleep with her.
This week we went to see Contagion starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, a bunch of germs I mean a ton of other wannabees and nobodies. Directed by Mr. Oceans Eleven, Steven Soderbergh, we count down the top ten infected movies. Plus, Dan gets sick and somebody didn’t wash their hands.
This week on The Directors Cut Radio Program, we review every major release this weekend; The Debt, Shark Night 3d, Apollo 18. Our top ten list as voted by you are “Top Ten Movies With Fish.” Most shockingly of all Russell calls in from a Walmart parking lot in the middle of Arkansas. This show is packed full of movie reviews and suggestions. Including special moments with Sean Gandert and another one of Dan’s special celebrity crushes. Enjoy!
This week Dan does the show all by himself, but he does call Russell Pinkston for help to review Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark. Dan reviews “Our Idiot Brother” and coincidentally lets you in on an inside look on his life with his roommate Brian. So in other words, Dan goes on a sad sappy self deprecating trip. Enjoy “Our Idiot Brother” and our idiot host.
This week Kristin Elliott and Dan review “Fright Night!” Another movie that was shot in the beautiful New Mexico. Though Kristin had to struggle to keep from sliding off of her chair each time David Tennant appears on screen, she successfully was able to pay attention to most of the film. So this week we have an in depth review and discussion of “Fright Night.” Sean Gandert of Paste Magazine calls in and gives us another anti-big-budget-over-the-top-action-summer-box-office suggestion. That you may want to add to your netflix cue. All of this and more from the greatest radio show about movies! The Directors Cut… Also don’t forget to click the subscribe button located on the right of this page, so you can have all of our shows automatically end up on your iPod, iPad or iWhatever.
This week Becky and Dan order a pizza, watch all of the old Planet of the Apes, eat ice cream, drink beer and talk “30 Minutes or Less”. Yeah, it’s another week where Dan and Becky talk about things that have frustrated them this week. Also, our top ten movies are Top Ten Movies about Robbing a Bank. Surprisingly it’s a really good list, one of the best. Find out if “30 Minutes or Less” is worth Seeing in Theaters, Waiting ’til DVD, or just completely forgetting about, all on this edition of “The Directors Cut” the guys show about movies.
