Unfortunately this movie isn’t the barrel of laughs the trailer leads you to believe. Yes there is cancer, yes there is comedy. But, there is something about the human struggle of “what the hell am I gonna do now?” Joseph Gordon-Levitt plays Adam, the guy with cancer. The movie is from his perspective and shows what it feels and looks like when you have to go down the path of dealing with death, dealing with friends and dying with loved ones. This week we review Moneyball, the new Brad Pitt and Jonah Hill baseball flick that has nothing to do with playing baseball. Oakland A’s Manager Billy Beane (Brad Pitt) gets a wild hair up his ass and decides to buy a winning team, based on statistics, rather than the old fashion way. We are lead to believe that the A’s are a bunch of no money losers (I hear this is true from one of my lame sports fan co-workers). No there aren’t any Jamaican bobsledders nor, ducks that gain might. This movie takes the behind the scenes no-holds-bar cash is king look at the sport. It really exposes that the muscle heads on the field were just genetically engineered to look good, and pose for their Wheaties packages. During the show we count down the top ten movies about baseball and Dan has a new appreciation for the sport.
This week Dan struggles to stay awake through a midnight screening of Drive. Starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan, Bryan Cranston and Albert Brooks. At the Cannes Film Festival Drive was nominated for the Palm D’Or and won Best Director for Nicolas Winding Refn. This movie takes an intentionally slow and artistic look at the worlds of stunt car driving and getaway driving. Interesting flick though, Refn feels like he was stealing the ultra violence styling of Cronenberg. During this program we count down the top ten movies about stunt drivers. Also, we mention a thing or two about how cute Carey Mulligan is. And 101 reasons why you will never ever get to sleep with her.
This week we went to see Contagion starring Matt Damon, Gwyneth Paltrow, a bunch of germs I mean a ton of other wannabees and nobodies. Directed by Mr. Oceans Eleven, Steven Soderbergh, we count down the top ten infected movies. Plus, Dan gets sick and somebody didn’t wash their hands.
